Class_Schedule
Class schedule for Autumn 2009
Classes are held at my Bindery, on Saturdays 10am-4ishpm, 5720 Melrose
Avenue, LA CA 90038.
All levels welcome, bring your basic tools, if you do not know what that is,
just come as you are. Each class is $130.00 A $60.00 deposit is required to
book your space.
Bring a bag lunch, or walk over to Astro Burger (good vegan/Greek food).
There is plenty of parking behind the bindery in the lot, just do not park in
the Framer Guys spots.
There will be pictures of each of the class bindings on my web site, in the
class section.

Coptic Binding.
This is sewing up the spine instead of across. I have a few ideas I have been
playing with using unusual materials and some interesting sewing patterns.
If you are a beginner, I will set you up with cord and paper, if advanced, you
get to work with window screen and various fabrics. The covers will be paper
over board, or limp leather.
November 14
Long Stitch Binding (or the mechanical tightback as I call it, where I got that I
have no idea)
This is a type of medieval binding, it is sewn along the spine and not up, with
a chain link stitch. Advanced students will incorporate a headband while
sewing.
We will create a spine piece out of wood and cover it with paper or leather,
then sew it on to the cover material that has been made first, then we will
sew the paper signatures in.
December 5 and the last class of 2009.
Small Photo Albums.
These will be aprox. 3”x4”. (2” bulk) I have adapted a version of the Victorian
board photo album, it is really wonderful to hold in ones hand. The covers
will be in cloth and we can title it on the kwickprint. This is a size that uses
the ‘proof sheet’ on most printers, enabling you to make the most of your
ink. About 20 photos can be used. You don’t have to bring your photos, but
it would be nice.
